Reference Assistance

Our reference services respond to brief, factual, informational questions that do not require extensive research and reading or interpretation on the part of the staff member. For more complicated requests, the staff will suggest research strategies or refer you to the reference desk at our library system's central library, the Poughkeepsie Library District.

Computer Tutorials

Computer tutorials are offered Friday mornings and are designed for people who have little or no experience using computers. Interested library patrons can sign up for a 30-minute block of time between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. on most Fridays. Based on what the student knows and wants to learn, the director of the library will tailor the lesson to fit their needs.

Interlibrary Loan

If you are looking for a particular book that is not available through our library system, you may request that we look outside the system for the item. We have a collaborative sharing agreement with many regional academic, special, public, and school libraries in southeastern New York and are able to satisfy many requests using the service SEAL (Southeastern Access to Libraries). If we are unable to locate your item through SEAL we can also have our library system perform a nationwide search. It can often take two to four weeks to fulfill a special request and materials must be returned to the Kinderhook Memorial Library when due.

Public Computers

Six computers with black-and-white printing capability and high-speed Internet access are available for use. Patrons sign in to the computers using their library card number and password and are given two one-hour sessions each day which can be used back-to-back if no other patrons are waiting. The cost to print is $0.20 per page.

WiFi Internet acess is also available in the library. Printing is not available for patrons using WiFi at this time.

Copier

A copier is available for use at $0.25 per copy. The copier service is offered by Eastern Copy Products.

Faxing

Outgoing faxes can be sent through the library for $1 per page ($2 for the first page if it is being sent long distance). The library does not accept incoming faxes for patrons.

Car Error Analyzer

An Actron AutoScanner Plus may be borrowed for one day at a time. This device connects to your vehicle, scans various parts of your car, truck or SUV, and retrieves a list of diagnostic trouble codes and code definitions from your vehicle's computer so that you can gauge the urgency of the alert.

Downloadable Audiobooks

Downloadable audiobooks which can be played on a computer or portable MP3 player are available for three-week loans using your library card and password. Please contact a staff member if you are interested in learning how to access the full list of titles.

Electronic Databases

Your library card gives you access to numerous databases and online resources that we have purchased with the help of Columbia County funding, the New York State Library support, and the Mid-Hudson Library System. Click on "Online Research" in the main menu and access the full list using your library card and password.
