In the fall of 1999, roughly a dozen men and women came together to form The Synagogue at Malden Bridge and what is now The Chatham Synagogue, the first new Jewish congregation in Columbia County in almost a century and the first ever to serve the northern end of the county. The first Reformed Church in Kinderhook was built in 1677 and the second in 1717. The third church was built in 1814 at the site of the present church and was badly damaged by fire in 1867. It was rebuilt in 1869, where it stands today at its present location on the corner of Church and Broad Streets in Kinderhook, N.Y.

The Shepherd's House is an exciting church family that was planted in the spring of 2005 by Michael & Mary Ellen Brennan. Walk the well-maintained, half-mile boardwalk which meanders through three distinct environments including a freshwater tidal swamp, a freshwater tidal marsh, and freshwater intertidal mudflats.

Facilities include nature trails, a pavilion, an indoor classroom, and an exhibit entitled Meeting Muhheakunnuk: the Hudson River Estuary.

Olana was the last and perhaps greatest masterpiece created by Hudson River School artist Frederic Edwin Church (1826-1900). Church designed the landscape and his Persian style home on and around the same hilltop where, as an eighteen year old student, he sketched spectacular views of the Catskills and the river alongside his mentor Thomas Cole. A designated National Historic Landmark,Olana State Historic Site opened to the public in 1967. The house, its contents, and the landscape still look very much as they did in Church's day.

The Hudson Opera House offers a year-round schedule of arts and cultural programming in the 1855 former Hudson City Hall which contains New York State's oldest surviving theater.
